Thousands of International Baccalaureate (IB) students received their diploma results earlier this week and on the same day The Times newspaper published, for the first time, an exam results table for schools offering the IB diploma in the UK.
18 out of over 200 schools in the UK offering the diploma have submitted their results to the newspaper on a voluntary basis.
IB results are presented as points, students take 6 subjects in total and choose 3 at ‘Higher Level’. A maximum of 7 points is awarded per subject and then the student can earn up to 3 additional points for the 4000 word extended essay. So, the maximum score is 45.

A new piece of research has found that the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) outperforms many other ‘native’ examination systems when it comes to gaining a place at higher education institutions across the globe.
Choosing the right school and considering all the choices along the way can be a major worry for relocating parents, and, in the context of current education debate, keeping up with changes can seem overwhelming. This year has seen a large number of proposed developments to the English education system and assessment methods in the independent sector. The coalition government has placed the current state curriculum under scrutiny, sparking fierce debate from education leaders and industry over its future direction.
