Examinations and assessments regulator Ofqual has discovered that as many as one in five school pupils may have been given the wrong grade in this year’s SATS, because of inconsistent marking methods. The findings were unveiled in an interim report on Ofqual’s two-year research programme looking at the reliability, or otherwise, of assessment results.

The report found that English was the subject most likely to be affected.
