Relocating parents may be relieved to hear that official figures indicate that 83.5% of families in England were awarded a place at their first-choice secondary school when the offers came through earlier this month. 

However, the picture varied widely across the country; in London and Birmingham, for example, only 66% gained a place at their top choice of school, while in the North East the figure was 92%.
